Medical Rotations

2-week Concentration

After two years of classes, medical students embark on a journey in practical clinical experience, working side-by-side with physicians and residents rotating through various specialties at hospitals, private practices and laboratories in bench-to-bedside training.

Working as a team and under the guidance of professionals, you’ll be introduced to the life of the third year med school student and learn clinical skills while wrestling with case studies and simulations knowing that the wrong decision could have dire consequences. This summer, you’ll rotate through specialties like internal medicine, oncology, pediatrics, emergency medicine, obstetrics, and surgery. You’ll receive updates on patients during rounds and determine the best course of treatment, check vital signs, patient charts and electronic health records. Stay cool under pressure as your team responds to a drop in your patient’s vitals or answer rapid-fire questions from doctors and residents. Learn the importance of avoiding snap judgments, contending with uncertainty, communicating effectively and humanely, and developing other skills that impact quality care.

You’ll get access to people and places that are usually reserved only for professionals and med students. You’ll network with doctors in a variety of medical careers and learn from them in state-of-the-art medical simulation labs. You’ll begin to see the world differently – through the eyes of a doctor.

AT EXPLO, LEARNING IS MORE
THAN JUST HANDS-ON.

IT’S ALL IN.

Get out of the classroom and into the real world.

Immersive projects, expert professionals, career connections — every day at
EXPLO is packed with opportunities to explore the world of people and ideas.

The most impactful experience was definitely going to the simulation lab because it was the first time I had been given the chance to try some of these procedures — I could really imagine myself operating on real patients. I’ve learned a lot about what it means to study and have a career in medicine and some of the new technologies that are being developed. I never really understood the process of how to get from college to med school and what to do to get to med school. This really cleared that up.

WHAT IS A CONCENTRATION?

Concentrations at EXPLO are a deep dive into a single subject for students who have a strong sense of what they’re interested in and what they may want to pursue for a career or future study.

Students who enroll in a concentration take just the single course over the course of one or two weeks (depending upon which program you choose). While you are part of the larger EXPLO community, you’ll find that most of your time is spent with your Intensive cohort — other students who, like you, are completely dialed in to the subject you’re exploring.
