A group of friends. A dog. A shared meal, and a murder? A body has gone missing and it’s up to you to unravel the accusations and alibis. Study the crime scene: as you uncover clues that have been left behind, you’ll learn basic crime lab skills and key intelligence gathering techniques. Analyze fingerprints, debris, and paint splatter to determine how the criminals moved through the space. Track and examine the handwriting in a secret note to see if you can figure out who wrote it, and use footprints and tracks to establish a timeline for the crime. To collect every shred of evidence, you’ll interrogate suspects, determine motives, and gather (and check) alibis to see who’s telling the truth and who has a reason not to. This case is not for the squeamish. As both detective and forensic scientist, are you ready to catch the criminals before they strike again?

Course Highlights

  • Analyze a crime scene, collect evidence, and interpret your lab results to solve a criminal case

  • Practice scientific lab skills such as making observations and inferences, identifying cause and effect, collecting data, and basic lab safety

  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to calculate a possible motive, identify a suspect, and interview a witness

  • Assume the role of a forensic scientist as you conduct an investigation and help to close the case!

We're working on how our 'victim' got killed. We're doing tests for fingerprints and testing blood marks that could've been anything like brown marker or chocolate. From this activity, I now know how to find fingerprints, test stains, and jot down detailed notes.
