EXPLO English Immersion Summer Program
Explo - Learning Through Exploration

Immerse Yourself in Our Community. This is English, EXPLO-Style.

Since 1976 EXPLO has
reached 75,000 students from
50 states and 93 countries
around the world.

We Don’t Put Classroom Walls Around Learning

Every day at EXPLO is intentionally designed so that learning doesn’t end when classes do. Each activity, every encounter is an open-ended opportunity for discovery and growth.

Teaching +

Our year-round staff works for 10 months every off-season to develop curriculum and programming that will knock your socks off. (Unless you’re in the science lab, where closed-toe shoes are required.)

From the moment your feet hit the floor in the morning until your head hits the pillow at lights out, every day at EXPLO is jam-packed with courses, entertainment, trips, and fun!

Become Part of the Tradition

With 41 summers under our belts, we know how important traditions are to our community. They unite us as soon as we step on campus and link us together for a lifetime. (And we can guarantee — you’ll never forget the Numa!)

  • Course Highlight: American Instruction

Engage in class discussion led by American educators, focusing on cultural inclusion and social connections.

  • Activity: Flag Football

During daily activity periods, participate in Flag Football — an American classic — with students entering the same age group as you. Not only will you learn the basic rules, but practice your camaraderie in competitive play.

  • Course Highlight: Launching Rockets

Building small-pressured rockets requires conversation about the physics of motion. Before you can say “3, 2, 1 . . .,” you must decide at what angle and pressure you want it to “blast-off!”

  • Weekend Trip: Paw Sox Baseball Game

Travel to McCoy Stadium, home to the Red Sox's minor league affiliate Paw Sox, and watch America's official national sport up close and personal.

  • Main Event: Storyteller, Len Cabral

Sit back and relax with your friends on the quad, as you listen intently to American folklore told by Len Cabral — famous for engaged, experiential listening for audience members of all ages.

  • Main Event: Carnival Night

Like a good old fashion carnival? Lucky for us, the carnival comes to Wheaton quad for a night of games big and small, face painting, and an American classic — cotton candy.

  • Course Highlight: Weather Unit

Have you ever wanted to make clouds from scratch? Learn language about weather, specific to temperature and precipitation — all while conjuring up clouds through condensation!

  • Trip Highlight: Plymouth, Massachusetts

Immerse yourself in America’s history; travel to Plymouth to learn about trade and commerce of the 17th Century, observing styles of life, and giving a salute to the Mayflower.

  • Course Highlight: Nature Trails of Wheaton College

At EXPLO, the community is your classroom. Wheaton College is a perfect setting for a summer of exploration, where you can venture on an abundance of nature trails with your peers.

EXPLO Reinvented the Learning Experience.
We Continue to Do So — Every Day

From the halls of MIT to the minds of curious young people from across the U.S. and around the world, learning through exploration combines an array of experiences — from hands-on courses and workshops to outdoor activities and weekend trips — that transform the way students engage with the world. More than 40 years later, EXPLO continues to reinvent the learning experience. Educators, nonprofits, and corporate leaders alike now seek EXPLO’s knowledge and expertise in engaged learning, critical making, and design thinking to drive their organizations forward.

Since 1976 EXPLO has

English Immersion was an amazing experience. I was able to see historic sites in Boston, learn more about American culture, and improve my English tremendously.
