Lab Science Course - EXPLO

Trigger a Reaction

Lab Science

Explore hands-on science in our lab with exciting daily experiments. By the end of the week, create your own.

What if you could power a lightbulb with the change in your pocket — or make a bed of flowers that looks like it’s glowing from within? Science (especially when it’s hands-on) is a pretty incredible thing! In our lab, you’ll master the scientific method as we explore the properties of dry ice, defy the properties of calcium carbonate to fold an egg, and design working batteries out of paper towels and pennies. Each day, we’ll explore the properties of chemistry, physics, and biology and by the end of the week you’ll be ready to design your own experiment! Who knew science could be so cool?

Course Highlights

  • Daily project-based experiments with safe chemical reactions

  • Practice scientific skills such as making observations and inferences, basic lab safety, collecting and documenting data, analyzing results and drawing conclusions

  • Power and create electrical circuits with household objects

  • Use your own curiosity to design a basic scientific experiment

At home, there's sometimes peer pressure and you can't always be who you really are, but here it's a chance to start fresh and be like, 'Okay, this is me, I have a chance to make friends based on who I am, because nobody is pressuring me to be someone different.' At home, I really like science . . . I wouldn't consider myself a total science nerd, but I really, really like it. And I found here that when I'm actually participating in a science class, I don't have to feel like, 'Oh, I'm participating in science.' I can actually say, 'I'm good at it, I like it, it's fun!'
