Schools have an engagement problem. EXPLO Studio wants to solve it. And we know how to. For more than 40 years, EXPLO has been an innovator in designing engaging courses and projects that excite students and teachers alike. Now, we’re pioneering new curricula for schools around the world that are working to enhance creativity and engagement in their classrooms.
EXPLO Studio is an innovation lab that develops engaging and creative STEAM courses for schools striving to incorporate more inquiry-based learning in their curriculum. We challenge students to think with their minds and their hands, and we challenge instructors to rethink how they teach and their role in the classroom. Art and design are meaningful and intentional components of our course design, encouraging creativity and individuality as students sharpen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
"Students are able to make connections between what they are building with paper to what they see in the real world, grappling with the intersection of form and function. Best of all, students work both individually and in groups to tackle projects in a way that is fun and makes them proud of their work."
Tung Trinh, Middle School Head Garrison Forest School, an EXPLO Lab School + Studio teacher
"I loved both your interventions, for what they sought to do and the methods you used. The blend of arts and science, creativity and technology, not one elbowing the other out of the way, is truly wonderful. After all, that really is our experience of the world, one feeding the other."
Dan Milne, Narativ: The Listening and Storytelling Company, EXPLO Studio Participant
“EXPLO's paper workshop is truly extraordinary. We were all blown away with the journey a simple piece of paper could take you on in such a short space of time. Profound and beautiful.”
Claudia Barwell, Suklaa + Oppi Co-Founder, EXPLO Studio Participant
"I am not a confident physicist but I am a compulsive fiddler and tinkerer. What this session allowed me to do was to discover an understanding of forces through mucking about with mobiles. Genius!"
Lord Jim Knight, TESGlobal, Former Minister of State for Schools UK, EXPLO Studio Participant
"When thinking about EXPLO, I feel more passionate about education, future possibilities and how much we can do to redesign experiences and influence the lives of young people. I hope to take that enthusiasm and inspiration wherever I go after graduate school. "
Sabrina, Harvard Graduate School of Education Studio participant
Over the next five years, the skill set needed to thrive in the world of work will change dramatically. Five years from now, 35% of the skills that are considered important in today’s workforce will have changed. Many schools are not preparing their students for this profound shift. The change is so significant that it can be hard to know where to begin; but for many, teaching these skills means teaching very differently.
According to the World Economic Forum, these are the top three skills needed to thrive in this new landscape. EXPLO Studio builds curriculum and coaches teachers to support students in developing these skills. Through embedding inquiry into highly engaging courses that pull from various disciplines and perspectives, EXPLO Studio helps students and teachers bridge the gap from what we know today to what we will need to know and do tomorrow.
