senior program summer site : conversations : first session



	isabella from peru (7/9) Isabella is entering the tenth grade and enjoying her first summer at Explo. In her morning courses, Isabella has discovered a new interest in graphic design and marketing, and she's been having a great time meeting new friends from all over the world. What is your first course and what have you been doing in it? I am in web design. Right now we are learning Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to make logos. I like Illustrator better. I’ve never used them before, so I’ve learned how to do it and I like it. I wasn’t planning on going to college for web design, but now I am interested. What about your second course? I am in marketing and advertising. We’ve been watching commercials and learning how to make slogans and advertise products and services. We have just begun, so I have not yet been assigned a product of my own to market. What trips did you go on this past weekend? Saturday I went to the Museum of Modern Art, which I liked a lot. Sunday I went to the Museum of Natural History. We also went to Central Park and had lunch. I love New York. What is your favorite main event so far? So far, it was the hypnotist last night. I thought it wasn’t real, being able to hypnotize someone . . . but now I can see that you can. I am looking forward to the dance tonight at Toad’s place. Have you been encouraged to trying something new at Explo? The museums. There was a lot of stuff in the Museum of Modern Art that I liked. I like a lot of the Picassos. How do you like living in the suites at Yale? I like it a lot; we know each other very well now. I met all of my suitemates here. They are from California, Pennsylvania, and Italy. It is very easy to get along. Do you find it difficult to make friends outside of your living group? No. I have met people through classes. And the first day I met a lot of people. What were you expecting when you came to Explo? To meet new people and have a college experience. It has definitely met my expectations. Do you think Explo is preparing you for college? Yes. I have been sleeping on my own, doing my own laundry, and going to classes. What advice would you give someone coming to Explo for the first time? I’m not sure [laughs]. Come ready to make new friends. Can you tell me something interesting about yourself that other people might not know? I like to play soccer and run.
