	giovanni from italy (7/01) Giovanni is entering tenth grade and it’s his first time at Explo. His energy during a living group activity caught our attention. He is from Italy and looks forward to improving his English and meeting new friends this summer at Explo. What is your first course and what did you do in it today? My first course is Acting and Directing. We did group work and an improvising scene. The scene was with a girlfriend and boyfriend who went to a restaurant and the boyfriend looked at another girl, which made the girlfriend angry. I played the boyfriend in the group. What are you taking for your second course? My second course is Advertising and Marketing. I look forward to it because I like the idea of learning what a person is thinking about when making an advertisement. That is interesting. Would you like to go to college for advertising and marketing? No, I would like to go to college for economics. I go to a German school in Italy. Next year I will learn more about the different colleges. Is this your first time in the United States? No, I have done a tour with my parents of the National Parks. I have been to Boston and New York. I like New York because it is big and Boston because there are a lot of students and younger people. I would consider living in Boston. What do you think of the food here? Today I had hamburgers, and they were good. In Italy the hamburgers are not so good. In America they are very good. The eggs for breakfast were also good. What is your favorite thing about Explo so far? My favorite thing is that you know a lot of people; there are a lot of people from different cultures. I have made new friends. My living group is very polite, playful, and easy to speak with. It is not difficult to make new friends; my only challenge is the language. People speak so fast that you don’t understand every word. But my friends that came here last year from Italy told me that in a few days I would get used to it. They are the ones who recommended Explo to me. What were you expecting when you came to Explo? I expected to improve my English and to meet new people. I want to know someone outside of Italy. I like knowing a lot of people. What do you think of the Yale campus? I think it is very nice because there is a lot of green. You can sit under a tree and relax or go outside with friends and eat in different restaurants in the town. What advice would you give someone coming to Explo for the first time? Don’t be afraid of not having friends, it is very easy to meet new people here. more conversations > first session \| second session
