living at yale

residential students

The suite structure in the residence halls of the Old Campus provides an ideal pre-college living experience. Each building has its own history and unique character. As a residential student, you will be housed with up to 8 other students in a suite, each with a mix of single and double bedrooms and a furnished common room. Three or four suites together make up a Living Group, each with two Residential Advisors (RAs). All dorms are single-gender. Each Living Group has a common, furnished student lounge, which serves as a place for daily check-ins and socializing.

The majority of our students come to the Senior Program without knowing other students, so your suitemates and Living Group tend to be the people with whom you make your first friendships. You are assigned housing based on your answers to our housing questionnaire. Knowing your music preferences and sleeping habits helps us match students and create cohesive living groups.

international students

Each summer our international students represent approximately 40 countries. International students come to the Senior Program to brush up on their English (international students must have an intermediate or advanced level of English proficiency in order to attend Exploration), learn about American culture, and get a taste of college life in the US. The diversity of our student body is one of our greatest resources, and international students bring a fresh perspective to the Explo community.

Recently, international students have represented: Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, South Korea, Kuwait, Nigeria, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Venezuela, and Vietnam.
