sports clinics

Sports clinics provide an excellent opportunity for you to receive personalized, skills-based instruction from top NCAA coaches. Taught in premiere athletic facilities, all sports clinics are coed and are designed to accommodate students of varying ability levels.

Sports clinics take place at different times during the summer, and you may enroll in more than one sports clinic each session. In most cases, sports clinics take the place of a weekend trip, featuring four to five hours of instruction in a one-day intensive session; the crew clinic meets for six days as an alternative mini-course.

sample of sports clinics from 2007

The following sports clinics were offered during the summer of 2007. While we will offer a similar range of sports clinics for 2008, specific clinics may change. Please note that some clinics will take place at Yale, while others may be held at off-campus facilities. New sport clinic listings will become available in the Spring of 2008.

basketball
Held in the indoor basketball facilities at Yale University, this sports clinic will teach fundamental basketball skills as well as advanced team strategy. Coach Kingsley will cover shooting, ball handling, man-to-man and zone defenses, as well as screening, posting-up and blocking-out for rebounds. The clinic will conclude with an active scrimmage.

crew
Our crew sports clinic will introduce you to rowing in Yale’s championship-quality training tanks. Join us and learn how to simultaneously keep your oar in the oarlock, move up and down your slides, and pull together as a team to keep your boat moving through the water. You will spend the last day of this clinic at Yale’s boathouse, putting your practice to work on a rowing barge in the Housatonic River.
[note: the crew sports clinic meets for six days as a special alternative mini-course, and is available for an additional fee of $150.]

golf
This clinic will help you work on every facet of your golf game by emphasizing putting, driving, pitching, and full range swings. Coach Pulaski, named the 2003 Teacher of the Year by the Connecticut PGA, and his staff will give one-on-one instruction. After a day at the putting and driving ranges, you’ll try your skills out on one of the difficult holes at the Yale Golf Course.

soccer
Master the art of shooting, enhance your goal-scoring techniques, and develop other skills and strategy in a competitive environment with Coach Meredith. The former 2002 Northeast Region Coach of the Year, Coach Meredith will focus on ball handling, positions, passing, and the day will conclude with an active scrimmage.

squash
Come learn the game of squash in the Brady Squash Center at Yale, regarded by many as the finest squash facility in the country with one four-glass-walled exhibition court and two three-glass-walled courts. Coach Bell will teach you tight rails, how to serve on international courts, and a variety of squash defensive and offensive strategies.

tennis
At the Yale Tennis Center, the fourth largest tennis center in the world, Coach Dorato will teach you the basics—serves, returns, and groundstrokes—as well as help you elevate your game to the next level. The clinic will give you the opportunity to work on your volleys and net play with the 2001 Wilson/ITA Region 1 Coach of the Year.
