Announcing the Explo Learning Festival!

Bringing the magic of Explo to Wheaton College on Sunday, April 13, Explo invites students ages 6-12 to spend an afternoon exploring, creating, and discovering at the Explo Learning Festival.

On Sunday, April 13, 2014, from 2:00 to 4:00pm in the Haas Athletic Center on the campus of Massachusetts' Wheaton College, Explo will be pulling out all the stops for an afternoon of learning and fun for children ages 6-12 from all across the greater Boston area. Free and open to the public, the Explo Learning Festival invites young students to explore ideas, play games, and tackle challenges they (almost) never get the chance to try at home.

We’ve got loads of fun hands-on activities planned that we know will get kids excited. Explo is about experiencing the joy of learning and that's what we're aiming for with the Festival.

At the festival, you'll get to ride giant hovercrafts (and learn about the physics that keep them airborne), make crazy designs with pendulum art, and program Lego robots to navigate an obstacle course. You’ll be able to paint pictures with light, play improv games, and debunk magic tricks (with science). You’ll also get to put on some “whale blubber” underneath an (inflatable), life-size baby Right Whale — on loan from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association — and design stomp rockets to enter into a “Longest Flight” contest. With music, games of wall ball, and refreshments available to all, this will be an afternoon to remember.

"We've been working hard all year to come up with lots of creative and engaging projects," Kristi Jacobi, Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction, says, "and we can't wait to debut them at the Learning Festival this spring."

We've been up to our elbows in science, art, engineering, Legos, physics, chemistry, music, dance, and even a little bit of magic... and we can't wait to see what YOU bring to the mix! Come join us for a sneak peek of summer.

"I’m really excited about the The Explo Learning Festival at Wheaton College," Moira Kelly, Explo's Executive Director, says. "We’re designing it as a celebration of curiosity. We’ve got loads of fun hands-on activities planned that we know will get kids excited. Explo is about experiencing the joy of learning and that's what we're aiming for with the Festival."

Free and open to the public, the Explo Learning Festival is the perfect venue for family fun and experiential learning on a spring Sunday afternoon. This is going to be an afternoon to remember — we hope you'll join us!

About Explo on the Campus of Wheaton College
Launching our first summer on the Wheaton College campus, we welcome students entering grades 2-7 to choose from any of our four summer programs (depending on their age): Explo at Wheaton, our three-week flagship Explo 360 Program; Explo ER and Explo Vet, our immersive two-week Focus Programs; and Explo Mini, our weeklong concentrations. In each of our four programs, students have the opportunity to expand their worldview, discover the magic of creative learning, and make friends for life.

One of the most beautiful residential campuses in New England (Norman Rockwell would approve), Wheaton College is also one of the region’s friendliest. Nestled between Boston and Providence, Rhode Island, Wheaton College is surrounded by lush forests and nature trails. With air-conditioned classrooms, light-filled art studios, two theaters (one full stage, one black box), a woodshop, a LEED Gold-Certified science building — with state-of-the-art science and robotics labs, four rooftop greenhouses, a weather station, and telescopes that bridge the gap between Earth and the stars — Wheaton College is the perfect setting for our students to experience the magic of an Explo summer.
