Coco from Massachusetts (7/9)
We noticed Coco as she was rocking the wallball court before assembly. While it's only her first year at Explo, Coco is already going strong and enjoying her courses -- especially improv. What did you do yesterday? I played Capture the Flag. It was good -- one of my good friends was on my team. Then we played some croquet, which was the sport of the day. We hit the ball a lot. It was fun. So what classes are you taking? I'm taking “Explo Isles,” which is a sort of create-your-own-island type class. I'm also taking “Ready, Set, Act!” which is an improv acting class. So what's improv like? Improv is really fun because you get to do whatever you want and act really silly and play lots of games. At the end I hate for it to be over. Some days we get to make our own characters and work with them. They can be whoever we want. It can be a lot of fun and I'm pretty good at it. What about “Explo Isles?” It's cool. It's very official -- we've been setting up a bill of rights and types of governments and stuff. It's interesting. So what makes Explo classes different from classes at school? We get to play a lot more games and stuff. Classes are more fun here than at school. So what wold you say is your favorite thing that you've done at Explo, so far? Probably my improv class. It's a lot of fun. I also like free swim a lot . . . Capture the Flag is fun too. Most things with friends are good. If you could describe Explo in one word, what would it be? Maybe I'd call it “preparation,” like, for life. What do you mean by that? You meet all sorts of people and do all sorts of things. What does "Exploration" mean to you? Well, exploration here really means exploring yourself and other people and trying new things. Like, I'd never played croquet before Explo. I played wallball here, which is really popular. Was it hard getting to know new people here? It was pretty easy. Partly because everyone had name tags [lanyards], and I'm awful with names and I still have to read them to remember everyone. But also people are pretty nice, and it's easy to meet other kids. If Explo was a dessert, what kind of dessert would it be and why? I don't know . . . I guess fruit, because it's good for you, but I have a hard time imagining eating Explo [laughs]. more conversations > first session | second session |
