anne-cecile from france (8/2)
Anne-Cecile is a singer, swimmer and guitarist who has come to the Intermediate Program all the way from France. She is trying new things (like lacrosse) and is excited that after two weeks at Explo she has already noticed that her English has improved! How do you like Explo? I think it’s good, very good. What classes are you taking? “English Café” and “School of Rock”. How’s “School of Rock”? I like it. Some of my friends are in it with me. Do you play any instruments? Yeah, guitar, a little. And piano. Did you just start here? I’m a beginner . . . my best friend taught me. It’s cool. And how is “English Café”? It’s very cool. The teacher is Jocelyn and she’s really good. Is one of the reasons you came to Explo? To work on your English? Yeah, yes. What mini-course did you have? “Swimming” and “Track and Field”. How were those? I was so tired after Wednesday’s mini-courses, since it was so hot . . . but I made a good time for the 200 meters. My best time was here. It was 34 seconds. Wow! That’s awesome. Did you go on any trips last weekend? Last weekend? Yeah, I went on the New York City trip. How was New York? We went on Broadway to see Wicked. It was really good. How have you liked being part of a living group and living with so many Americans? Everything is good, nice, and cool. My roommate is good, very nice. I’ve found it easy to meet people here, yeah. What has been your favorite main event? I don’t know. Maybe the roller skating. Yeah, and the open mic-night. Did you perform at the open-mic night? Yeah, the Juno song, from the movie. Have you tried anything new at Explo? Yeah, I’ve learned a bunch of new songs on the guitar. I tried lacrosse for the first time. I sang a cappella. That was very cool, yeah. We sung a song. “Lean On Me”, it’s a beautiful song. It was very cool. And I think that I’m progressing in English, I hope. Has that been easy? Sometimes it has been hard and others easy . . . it’s getting easier. What were you expecting when you came to Explo? I just wanted to meet new people, learn English, and discover new things in America. I went to California last summer with my family and I couldn’t speak English because I was with my family . . . but now I’m alone in America . . . well, with my friends, sure . . . but it's different [without my family], so I think that it's better [for learning English]. Has anything really surprised you about Explo? Yeah, the staff! (Laughs.) Every staff member! They’re cool and they try to understand everyone, so it’s cool. It’s cool! That’s great to hear. What will you miss most about Explo? Everything. The people, the place, the friends I’ve made. If Explo had a mascot what would it be? Uh, I don’t know. Um, Patty (O’Furniture)? more conversations > first session | second session |
