dawei from china (7/23)

Dawei is getting ready to enter 8th grade. As a big sprts fan, he's excited to be back for his second year at Explo, where basketball and curb-ball are an everyday part of life!

So, you’re from China? That’s a long way to travel for a program. What made you choose Explo?
My mom found it for me.

How was moving in?
It was good.

Do you like your roommate and RA’s?
Yeah, they’re good.

What classes are you taking?
For main course I’m taking “Go-Cart Madness” and “Blowing the Gaskets”.

What did you do in “Go-Cart Madness”?
We used a saw for training and started designing the go-cart.

What’s yours going to be like?
We had a little group, just three people. Our idea is that the cart is round with the front tires smaller.

That should look cool!
I think so.

What did you do in “Blowing the Gaskets”?
We did experiments and then had discussions about hydro-engineering.

What sorts of experiments did you do?
Well, we had the challenge of putting a cup on the floor, letting the water run into it, and then into our mouths without using our hands.

Wow, how did you manage that?
We actually used a kind of pulley to pull it up, so that it fell into our mouths.

That’s a creative way to stay hydrated! What mini-courses are you doing tomorrow?
I think I'm doing basketball and archery.

Is there something new you’ve tried at Explo this year?
Curb-ball [laughs].

What do you think of the food here?
It’s great. It’s a change.

What are some hobbies you have?
Playing sports . . . basketball.

How have you found meeting people here?
They’re friendly and nice. I'm looking forward to [Explo]. It should be really fun and very interesting.

What were you most looking forward to when coming back to Explo?
Just to have fun. I really missed my friends during the year, but they are coming back here too.
