alex from georgia (7/7)

Alex is a rising 9th grader and residential student from Georgia. We met him the other day at the "Perfecting the Art of the Horror Scream" activity and today we shared a bus to Six-Flags! It’s his first year at Explo, and after one week of classes, main events, and mini-courses he's psyched to do even more in the next two weeks! Grafitti away, Alex!

Did you have fun at Six-Flags?
Yeah, I went on the Mind-Eraser and the Cyclone, but not Batman or Superman.

So, do you like your courses? What are you taking?
Yeah, I like them. I'm taking “Manga, Marvel, and More” [an comic book class] and “See It, Make it, Watch It“ [a video production class].

What are you doing in “See It, Make It, Watch It”?
We’re making a six-minute movie. It's going to be, like, Explo with no rules. We'll start filming this week.

Oh, very exciting. What’s your role?
I don’t know, we haven’t gotten that far yet. It will be a comedy though.

How did you find out about Explo?
Well, my cousin is going, so his mom told my mom . . . and then I arrived!

What are you expecting from Explo?
A good time. A good summer.

Georgia isn't exactly close, what made you chose Explo over other programs?
Uh, like, I just wanted to try something new. It sounded really cool from the DVD, and since my cousin is coming, it made it an easy decision.

Planning on trying something new?
Yeah, Graffiti.

Oh right, the mini-course! What are you doing in that? I hope you're not defacing Wellesley for practice!
[Laughs] Well, we did some pencil graffiti to practice, first. Then we had to make up a tag name, or, like, an alias, or whatever it's called.

What’s your tag?
Born.

Sounds symbolic. Have you found it difficult to make friends here?
No. It's really easy actually.

What do you like most about your living group?
Like, the RAs are really cool and stuff . . . and the floor really gets along. And we like the same music -- rap -- so we just blast the music with our speakers.

What kind of hip-hop do you like?
All kinds

Well, you’ve got to have a favorite!
Probably Lil’ Wayne.

Well there is a Lil’ Wayne appreciation discussion tomorrow during activity period! Besides going to that, what are you looking forward to the most this summer?
Just making friends and having a good summer.

I know it’s early in the session but what do you think you’ll miss most about Explo?
The new experience. The new people. Yeah, and being in a new place.
