Campus + Facilities

With Explo ER, you’ll not only experience the best of on-campus living at St. Mark’s, you’ll explore some of the best medical facilities on the ground (and in the air!) that Boston has to offer.

Our campus map highlights the residential, academic, and recreational facilities available to students during the summer. The map also indicates the location of our on-campus informational meetings in the winter and spring.

On EXPLO Live

The students in the Explo ER Focus Program are in training for their First Aid and CPR certification. During the next five hours, they’ll learn the skills they’ll need to save a person’s life or help someone who’s been injured.

The St. Mark’s Campus
Explo ER is located on the beautiful campus of St. Mark's School in Southborough, Massachusetts. St. Mark's is one of the country's oldest and most prominent coeducational college preparatory schools, located on a picturesque campus (literally — it's appeared in numerous films) with 250 acres of athletic fields, woodlands, and ponds.

Everything on the St. Mark's School campus is right at your fingertips: amazing classroom facilities, a fantastic dining hall, an outdoor pool, administrative offices, and a 24/7 health center. And its location just 26 miles west of Boston makes it the perfect starting point for taking advantage of one of the nation's great historical, cultural, and educational centers. It's a tremendous setting for the intellectual, social, and recreational growth of Explo. You'll love it!

Explo ER Facilities
The facilities at St. Mark’s are just the beginning. As part of Explo ER, you’ll learn life-saving techniques in a state-of-the-art, computerized trauma simulation lab where Boston's top doctors practice for the real thing. You’ll get to practice suturing wounds with synthetic limbs and tissue that will hone your practice skills, in addition to using surgical knot tying boards and ortho-glass splints that will help you feel like a true professional in no time.

Beyond the Classroom
And you won’t just have access to facilities on campus! You’ll get a chance to tour and visit Boston MedFlight where you’ll see their critical care transport center facilities, including four helicopters and a medical jet, and you’ll learn about how these resources help Boston medics do their jobs.

You’ll have an opportunity to tour the Boston Museum of Science “Beyond the X-Ray” exhibit and explore five different medical imaging technologies. Not to mention you’ll have access to workshops and visits with EMTs and ER doctors and fully equipped lab spaces where you’ll be running antibiotic, anatomy, and other hands-on labs with all the tools of the trade.
