Nuts + Bolts
A Seven-Week Job
Employment at Exploration is a seven-week commitment. However, prior to arriving at Explo, teaching faculty will have worked with our Curriculum Department in the later winter and spring to prepare lesson plans and order supplies for their courses. The first week of the summer is for faculty orientation and on-site training; the next six weeks make up the academic summer Program. A summer at Explo is broken up into two sessions, with each session lasting three weeks.

On and Off Time
During the week, approximately every other evening is an ‘off night’ for faculty. ‘Off time’ starts between 6:00 and 6:30pm, depending on the Program. Additionally, over the course of the six weeks of the Program, staff receive four weekend days ‘off’.

Trips (Admission Included)
On the weekends and occasional weekday nights, students at Explo go on trips which are chaperoned by our faculty. As part of supervising these trips (which go to museums, beaches, parks, and theater performances across New England and New York), staff have their full expenses paid for – including admission and meals.

What can you expect from a summer position at Exploration? More than you might think. Working at Explo truly is ‘an experience’ – one that challenges you to grow and to learn.

Here are some things you can expect from your work at Explo:

Professional Development
For all our staff – regardless of whether you're an aspiring educator or not – we provide a fantastic environment for professional growth. Unlike some summer jobs and internships that aren't much more than photocopying and paper-pushing, at Explo you'll have real responsibility and get a real work experience. Our administration will meet with you regularly during the summer to give you feedback, help you assess your performance, set goals, and improve your organizational and interpersonal skills.

Lively Co-Workers
The Explo faculty is a dynamic, intelligent, creative set: a group that will inspire you to do more and better work than you ever thought imaginable. Your hundred or so colleagues will also become some of your closest friends – not only for the seven weeks of the Program, but afterward as well.

Good Pay (and Room + Board)
With salaries ranging from $3,300 to $5,000 for seven weeks of service, our summer positions are generously compensated. Additionally, all meals and living arrangements are paid for.

A Nice Stretch
Trying new things is a hallmark of Exploration and it extends to our faculty as well. Your work will stretch you in new and challenging ways. You may be the cruise director for a dance on the Boston Harbor; you may mediate a discussion about Palestine; you may lead students through an outdoor ropes course . . . whatever it is, you'll definitely learn in the process.

Time with Kids
Whether in the classroom, on the quad, in the dorm hall, on the bus, or in a museum, you will be spending your time teaching, talking to, playing with, and learning from students from around the world. You'll see them change and grow . . . and you'll be assured in knowing that your energy helped incite that growth.

Fun
Working at Explo is a blast. You'll get to be creative, zany, funny, caring, intelligent, organized – every day, all summer long. It's not an easy job, but it's also probably the hardest job you'll ever love.
