Exploration offers an incredible opportunity for its instructors to create. Whether it be in the classroom, during a crazy activity period, or just in talking with the students, we as staff are constantly inventing, producing, and inspiring. Explo gives me a chance to continually reinvent myself and reevaluate what I know and believe. -- Dave Carpenter |

the interview: it's short. it's informal. it's fun.
If we do not visit a school in your area, please send in your application and selected candidates will be contacted for either a phone or satellite interview. Before you come to the interview, you should familiarize yourself with the three Programs. Become familiar with our literature, both in our catalogs (if you have copies of past catalogs) and online. Our summer websites, (particularly the student interviews), are a great way to get a better sense of what our Programs are like during the summer. As you learn about Exploration, think about the talents and interests that you might bring to the Program, and where and how you might fit in based on the list of available faculty positions. If you are interested in a course-teaching position at one or more of our Programs, you should review the list of courses and mini-courses for which the Program(s) are seeking instructors (Senior, Intermediate, Junior). For each Program to which you are interested in applying, identify the courses and mini-courses you would like to teach. As much as possible, come up with specific lessons or class projects you might lead for each course. Consider how you would structure your lessons differently for elementary, middle, or high school students. The more concrete your ideas are about the courses you would like to teach, the better sense our interviewer will have of your competency and enthusiasm for the material. If you are interested in one of the non-course-teaching positions, you should still review the list of mini-courses for which the Programs are seeking instructors (Senior, Intermediate, Junior), as all applicants are required to identify mini-courses they would like to instruct. In addition, you should come to the interview prepared to tell us what specifically qualifies you for the job(s) you are considering. Pay particular attention to the descriptions of faculty positions listed both on this website and in the reference material with the 2008 Application Information Guide. what to wear, how to act The interview is relaxed, so dress casually. Because the interviews are relatively short, come with a list of ideas and questions, and be prepared to give us a real sense of who you are and how you might fit into our Programs. We've found résumés to be a good conversation starter. If you have a résumé prepared already, bring it along. (If you don't have a current résumé, please don't spend time making one. We would rather you spend that time reviewing our application materials.) Be ready to tell us what makes you the right person for each aspect of the job. Let us get to know you in the interview; make sure to tell us about all of the talents, interests, and experiences that you might share at Exploration. If you have questions about the Programs, this is a great opportunity for you to interview us to make sure that Exploration is the right match for you. |
