exploration today

Each fall, we review the experiences at each of our Programs, looking at student, parent, and faculty feedback from the previous summer as we begin making plans for future summers. Exploration is currently supported by 24 full-time employees who work year-round in development and planning to ensure that each year at Exploration is better than the last. In addition, we have more than 60 professional educators working part-time to supervise and train new teachers before they arrive for the summer.

Our year-round staff provides a critical foundation and support for our summer administration. Throughout the winter and spring, each Program’s Curriculum Office works with our instructors to develop substantive courses that are appropriately geared towards our students’ developmental needs. During the summer, the Curriculum Office is an invaluable resource for instructors, sitting in on classes, offering suggestions and advice, and helping instructors arrange special events and out-of-class experiences.

Like our Curriculum Offices, each Program also has a Programming Office which spends the off-season preparing for the summer. During the winter and spring, our Programming Offices are busy coordinating the trips, speakers, and special events that will occur at each Program. During the summer, our Programming Offices schedule our daily activities and events, and are uniquely prepared to respond to student interests and staff ideas by coming up with additional programming on the fly.

Each of our Programs has its own Dean’s Office, which is modeled after the residential life system used in boarding schools. Each Program has a Dean and Assistant Deans who supervise an experienced group of Residence Directors, who in turn supervise our Residential Advisors and Day Advisors. As our Residential and Day Advisors are also our students’ instructors and extracurricular leaders, our residential life network helps ensure that each child at Exploration is supported and cared for at every point during the day.

Exploration has become an international leader in academic summer programs because of our focus on students and our commitment to excellence and innovation. We never stop reevaluating our Programs or looking for ways to make our students’ educational experiences better, ensuring that Exploration Summer Programs stays at the forefront of academic summer experiences.
