Old Campus: Your Summer Home
Surrounded by Gothic-style buildings and featuring a beautifully landscaped residential quadrangle, Yale's historic Old Campus is the perfect summer home. It is a place where you can play a game of ultimate Frisbee, enjoy a special evening concert, or read under the shade of a tree. Conveniently located in the heart of Yale University, the Old Campus houses a number of classrooms and is within walking distance of academic facilities for visual and performing arts as well as lab sciences.
Near the Old Campus are Commons (the University dining hall), Payne Whitney Gymnasium, Sterling Memorial Library, two Yale art museums, and the Chapel Street and Broadway shopping areas. As a residential student, you live in suites in the Old Campus residences, where you will gain valuable experience in small group dorm living. In addition to housing students and staff, the Old Campus is the hub of activity at Explo.
Experience College Life
Yale's renowned Peabody Museum, British Art Center, and Yale Art Gallery are wonderful resources for coursework and independent discovery. As an Explo at Yale student, you can read and work in the Sterling Memorial Library, which houses ten million volumes.
You'll also have access to Yale's athletic facilities, including acres of playing fields, the Yale tennis complex, and Payne Whitney Gymnasium, the second-largest indoor athletic center in the world.Yale's outstanding facilities allow Explo to offer one-of-a-kind opportunities for you to explore new interests in a variety of academic and extracurricular areas.
New Haven: College Town
With Yale at its center, New Haven, Connecticut is a vibrant college town. Yale’s Old Campus is located in the heart of the “Elm City” and is surrounded by tree-lined streets with many eclectic boutiques and restaurants. At Explo, you’ll have a chance to explore the shops along Chapel Street and in the York Square area, take a culinary tour, or enjoy a local performance.
New Haven's central location between New York City and Boston allows us to offer trips to all the best sites of the Northeast. As the cultural capital of Connecticut, New Haven makes a great setting for Explo, combining the richness of a small city with the comforts of a college town. from the Boston area
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike to Route 84 West. Stay on Route 84 to Route 91 South. Take the Trumbull Street exit (Exit 3) in New Haven.
Go straight through four traffic lights. At the fifth traffic light, turn left onto Prospect Street. After you cross Grove Street, Prospect turns into College Street. The Old Campus (Phelps Arch) is on the right, just after the light at Elm Street.
from the New York area
Take 95 North to Route 91 North. Take the Trumbull Street exit (Exit 3) in New Haven. Follow the directions above.
