Student Life
At Explo, we believe that singing is as important as learning quantum physics (and in some in cases, more so). We believe that you learn best when you're allowed to learn in the way that suits you best. From your first day on campus, you'll see — we do things differently here.
- 75% of students are residential and 25% are day students
- Explo students come from 40 states and 50 countries worldwide
- 25% of Explo at Wellesley’s student body is international
The Explo Way of Life
At some point this summer, you’ll understand what it’s like to command a room. You’ll feel the power that comes with making your own choices, and open your mind to thinking and seeing the world in ways you’ve never fully experienced. You’ll uncover something new — something you can’t believe you’ve gone this long without knowing — and you’ll let your passion lead you from finding a new intellectual pursuit to discovering a creative wonderland. You’ll find out that really, you’ve been creative all along.
Structuring Your Day
At Explo, we want students to exercise their curiosity. We want you to make choices about what's important to you. Because it’s those choices — even the ones you make now — that will shape the person you are to become.
This is education by design — yours — on a daily schedule that gives you the freedom to choose what subjects you'll explore, which activities or athletics you'll try, which Main Event will light up your night — and which trips will highlight your weekend. You'll decide if this is your summer to discover what you're most passionate about, to get even more prepared to start high school — or both. And you'll get to spend each day pursuing all the things you love to do, discovering (or rediscovering) your natural abilities and talents, and making friends from around the world.
A Sense of Community
More often than not, you won't know anyone when you arrive on campus. Within the first ten minutes, that'll change. You'll meet — and become friends with — more people than you thought you'd meet all summer. And no matter what walk of life you (and they) come from, at Explo, we're all part of one community.
Community starts with your campus family: your Living Group. Your Living Group will include the girls or guys living on your hall — students that can come from as close as the place where you grew up to as far as the other side of the world. If you come as a day student, your Day Group will become your new best friends. Your group will become the people who will look after you, support you, and have fun with you from morning to night. Each day, your community will continue to grow until you feel like you know everyone on campus.
This is Where You Belong
Getting accustomed to life at college will be easier than you think, and the toughest choice you’ll face is how you’ll fill the free hours each afternoon. When you first set foot on campus, you'll get a feeling — that feeling that confirms what you might already know: this is exactly where you belong.
