Courses + Academic Options

At EXPLO, our way of thinking is, if you’ve ever wanted to figure out how something works, if you ever dreamed about performing your new musical on stage, or if you’ve ever thought about trying something new (that you haven’t had the chance to do) — you’ll get to try it here.

Off-Broadway Night

What’s the greatest night on campus? The night students get to perform the dances, songs, raps, and musicals they’ve been preparing all session. Broadway’s got nothing on us!

Cultivating Curiosity
Since our courses do not include tests or homework, you have the ability to discover new interests, explore new subjects, or try something just for the fun of it — without having to worry about needing to get everything right in your first go. In fact, trying something again and again — that’s where the real fun comes in! So if you’ve been itching to try web page design, engineering, theater, or environmental science, you can find it here.

Morning Courses
If you want to launch a mission into space, prosecute the guilty in court, or create a potion that turns liquids into a rainbow, we’ve got a course for that. And if you want to fight your (on-stage) nemesis with dueling swords, dream up (and create) an entire island nation, or make a (figurative) killing in the stock market, we’ve got a course for that, too.

Students will take two courses for each session. Courses meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for one-hour-and-fifteen-minutes. Pioneers (fourth and fifth graders) take courses in the morning, and Voyagers (sixth and seventh graders) take courses in the afternoon. Course size is limited to 14 students or fewer. Students who come for the full summer will take two new courses during the second session. Click here for course listings.

Wednesday Workshops
Each Wednesday, students attend two workshops, each for two hours. They attend the same two workshops each Wednesday for the entire three-week session. Workshops cover some of the topics offered during course periods in addition to more recreational options. Pioneers and Voyagers have workshops specific to their divisions, with some workshops that are open to both divisions. Students who come for the full summer will take a different set of workshops during their second session. Click here for workshop listings.
